Wanganui Osteopathic Clinic about us

Jonathan Paine

I graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in London in 1989. I moved from London up into the Midlands of the UK working between Leicester and Kettering. In 1990 I set up my first practice in the market town of Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Within a year I set up on my own in Leicester city splitting my time between the two new practices.

In 1997 I sold my Hinckley practice and went into partnership with a GP in Leicester and we changed the direction of my Leicester practice to that of a multi-disciplinary sports injury clinic.

We had a team of some 14 practitioners from osteopathy, physiotherapy, medicine, Occupational therapy, podiatry, Alexander technique, massage, Pilates, sports physiology providing a comprehensive package to both amateur, professional and elite athletes and sportsmen and women. We also continued to provide a service to the general public.

In 2003 I decided that I wanted to provide my family with a different lifestyle and we moved to New Zealand.

My particular area of interest has been chronic pain and dysfunction and I have found it fascinating over the years meeting and helping patients from all walks of life and all backgrounds.

Chronic pain makes no differentiation between elite athletes and housewives and it has been a privilege to have been given the opportunity to try and make a difference to my past patients and every day I am presented with more challenges with which I can effect functional changes in an attempt to facilitate changes in patients pain levels.

Although my training in London was ostensibly structural I have completed many postgraduate courses which have given me new tools and approaches to deal with the patients and their problems that present themselves to me. Indeed, learning never stops and the excitement of discovering more about the workings of the human body and the problems that are encountered continues.

Apart from my work I enjoy outdoor and sporting pursuits. Embracing what NZ has to offer I have become a keen hunter (when time permits). I play football (soccer!), mountain bike, practice yoga and enjoy a rather eclectic choice in music! And the odd drop of NZ wine goes down well too!

I am married with three children, my daughter is at university and my sons are in secondary school and seem to play an inordinate amount of sport!
